BetterPaste does not collect, transmit, or store any of your data on our systems. Everything the app records stays on your Mac.

Nothing. BetterPaste has no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting service, no advertising identifiers, and no user accounts. We do not know how many times you have opened the app, what you have copied, or whether you are using it at all.
BetterPaste records the items you copy so that it can offer them back to you later. There are two kinds of item, and they are handled differently.
Recent items are held in memory only. Your rolling clipboard history is never written to disk. It is discarded when it ages out of the retention window you set, when you clear your history, and in every case when you quit BetterPaste or restart your Mac. Nothing about it survives the app.
Pinned items are written to disk. Pinning is the one thing that persists, which is the reason it exists. Pinned items are saved on your own Mac in ordinary readable form. They do not expire, they are not removed when you clear your history, and they remain until you unpin them.
Where they are saved depends on which build you have, and the two are not the same. The build downloaded from this site is not sandboxed and keeps pinned items in ~/Library/Application Support/BetterPaste/. A sandboxed build, such as one distributed through the Mac App Store, keeps them inside the application's own container under ~/Library/Containers instead. Either way the file sits on your own Mac and is not shared with us.
Neither kind of item is uploaded anywhere, and neither is accessible to us under any circumstances.
BetterPaste records whatever you copy. It does not attempt to distinguish sensitive material from ordinary material, so if you copy a password, an account number, or anything else you would rather not have retained, it will be held in your local history until it ages out of your retention window or the app quits.
Three things follow from that. If you routinely copy sensitive material, consider setting a short retention window. If you copy something sensitive and want it gone right away, clear your history from within the app, or simply quit it — unpinned history lives only in memory, so both remove it entirely.
And do not pin sensitive material. A pinned item is written to your disk in readable form and is deliberately exempt from both expiry and Clear History. To remove one, unpin it first and then clear your history; clearing alone will leave it in place.
BetterPaste does not connect to the internet in the course of normal use. It has no sync service and no backend.
BetterPaste requests Accessibility access from macOS. It uses that access for a single purpose: to synthesize the ⌘V keystroke so that the item you pick is pasted into the app you were working in. It is not used to read other applications, observe what you type, or gather anything. Recording your clipboard requires no permission and BetterPaste requests none for it.
We do not share data with third parties, because we do not have any of your data to share. BetterPaste includes no third-party SDKs, trackers, or advertising libraries.
If you purchase or download BetterPaste through the App Store, Apple handles that transaction under its own privacy policy and may provide us with aggregate sales and download statistics. That information comes from Apple, is not tied to your identity, and is not gathered by the app.
BetterPaste is not directed at children, and since it collects no data, it collects no data from children.
Privacy regulations such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, and delete personal data that a company holds about you. We hold none, so there is nothing for us to produce or erase. The clipboard history on your own device is under your control at all times, and you can delete it from within the app.
If BetterPaste ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and revise the date above before the change ships. We do not intend to begin collecting data.
